He and She: Ishq Sufiyaana!!

Samriti had to go back to her hostel in Bangalore. She had come to her hometown after the midterm exams. She was not feeling well as she was down with fever. But somehow she had to reach Bangalore. Her deficiency in attendance meant a huge loss as her college would debar her from placements.  Her parents asked her to cancel the journey and leave once she recovers.

At the same time, she received a call from her best friend Mahesh. She told him that she is leaving for hostel on that day. She talked with him for some 30 minutes and started packing her bags. She messaged him that she is not well and don’t know how she would manage to go. He scolded her and asked her to listen to her parents. Her cell was flooded with his messages asking her the health state, how she was feeling, whether she was able to reach properly. He thought that she was accompanied by her parents to the bus stop. Having known that she was alone in this state, he insisted that he would accompany her to Bangalore. She smiled as soon as she read the message and asked him that she could manage and she will let him know once she gets back safely.

But all the while in her journey, she was thinking of him. The way he got panicked, the way he scolded her, the way he took the right and liberty on her, the way he insisted on accompanying her to her hostel. What was it? Whether it meant more than the friendship? Thinking and smiling on her way back, she was fast asleep. His care towards her indeed made her feel good and better.

This is not a work of fiction. Based on a true incident.

A Day for Beautiful and lovely species on earth: WE the WOMEN

All the time, we say, we hear, we read, we listen, we know that you and me should respect Women.

We are blessed to have amazing mother and sisters on earth. We are even more blessed to have lovely female friends around us. On this very special day, I salute them by writing about them.
Everyone has got some female role models, an inspiration, and a hero whom they admire and aspire to be in their life, some visionary. Lot of people talk about their mother/ sister/ grand ma/ teacher/ colleague/ boss/ spouse etc. Let’s talk about someone who we admire and wish to be ……

One of the celebrity and social activist whom I really look up to:

Nandita Das:

An Award winning actress she is, won many accolades for her performances in many of her films. Her directorial debut Firaaq has won lot of international and national awards.

I really admire with the fact that she is a wonderful artist, theatre actor, director, social activist,  teacher, dubbing artist, affectionate mother and wife and first Indian to be inducted in hall of fame of international women’s forum, Washington DC.

Her dedication towards the career and personal life speaks volumes. She has done great job by volunteering for children welfare and society. She wears many hats and her passion towards the art and social movements surprises me and at the same time inspires me to a greater extent. I so wish to be like her by focusing on my role as a career woman and also fulfill my role in my personal life.

A sister I never had: A sister I want to be:

“Sister. She is your mirrorShe is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. Some days, she's the reason you wish you were an only child.” ---------------------------- Barbara Alpert

I always thought how my big sister would be like. In my childhood, I used to tell my mother that next I want a big sister as I already have one big and loving brother ( he is too cool)  not aware of the fact that whoever comes after me would be called as my younger sibling. How innocent I was! My parents would laugh.

I see many of my friends who always bitch about their elder sister, at times they missed their sisters when she travels, at times they had a cat fights. Both of them can’t stand each other but cannot live without each other. I have my cousins whom I consider very close to my heart. We fight, we can go on talking all night, we laugh our heart out; we can’t stay without seeing each other ( 4 days gap also sounds too long for us, we call each other and say,” it’s been ages since we have met”). I do really think that I am fulfilling the role of a big sister or I really wish to continue fulfilling and aspire to be one.

I have some friends whom I consider my elder loving sister, for example Ashwini Hari – she is darling and a sweetheart. She calls me chellam sweetly and sometimes kutty chathan. He heJ But I sometimes miss a big sister whom I can have always at home, write about her, fight with her, steal her best dress for party or night outs, hug her and sleep, pull her leg at times in front  of my parents, share secrets about my crushes and the list goes on.

I would like to know who you guys have in your mind. Please share your views and express your opinions about the women you wish/ aspire to be and the women you look up to.

Thank You all.

Hugs and Cheers,

Saranya
